NPG Supports AMA Pro Racing Announcement
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 7, 2008) – The National Promoters
Group (NPG) released an official statement in support of today’s
announcement made by AMA Pro Racing at the Daytona International
Speedway.
AMA Pro Racing announced that the Daytona Motorsports Group (DMG)
has purchased the rights to all AMA Pro Racing motorcycle racing
properties, including the venerable AMA Toyota Motocross
Championship Presented by FMF.
An official statement was immediately released by the NPG’s
president Carrie Coombs Russell who represents the 12 track
owners that are currently under contract to produce the 2008 AMA
Toyota Motocross Championship Presented by FMF.
“We are pleased with today’s announcement that AMA Pro Racing is
turning things over to a company with the success and racing
heritage that the Daytona Motorsports Group brings to our sport.
The NPG and its 12 track owners continue their commitment to the
long-term growth of AMA Motocross and look forward to developing
a successful working relationship with DMG. The NPG has been
instrumental in raising the level of professionalism of
motocross racing in the U.S. but we also realize our job is not
done. We have developed an aggressive and comprehensive plan
that encompasses all areas of the series. From competitive
issues to event site upgrades to overall fan interaction, the
NPG will implement a series of programs designed to improve the
overall look and feel of AMA Motocross. We feel strongly about
our direction and future success for our series, its riders,
teams and sponsors. In time we will learn of the inner workings
of the business arrangements made by AMA Pro Racing with DMG and
how our two organizations can capitalize on each other’s
strengths. This was a positive announcement for motocross in the
U.S. and we’re looking forward to another great summer of
racing.”
